A defense attorney is the legal counsel assigned to help a person charged with violating a criminal law during their arrest and trial.

A prosecuting attorney is the legal counsel that represents the people (the state or federal body) in a case involving criminal law.

In criminal law, the Miranda rule is the rule that requires the police to advise a suspect of their right to remain silent and their right to an attorney.
How are juveniles handled in the criminal law system?
There are several differences between how juveniles and adults are treated in the criminal law system. Age, type of crime, and repeat offenses can all influence which system a juvenile is processed in.
